1-Day Shelter

1-Day Open Door Shelter

We hold 1-Day Open Door Shelters across the United States, thanks to funding by the Watershed Animal Fund.  The 1-Day Open Door Shelters give horse owners the opportunity to surrender their horse without any cost to them, and no questions asked. No horse will be refused, no matter its condition.  We have held these events in several states, and will continue to reach new markets as funding allows.  Our goal for 2017 is to hold 12 of these shelters in 12 separate locations accross the United States.  If you are interested in hosting a 1-Day Shelter, at no cost to your organization, please contact us.

Goals

The 1-Day Open Door Shelter has 3 specific goals, each of which further our mission of reducing suffering and slaughter of horses and other members of the equine family.

1: Prevent horses from going into the slaughter pipeline

2: Help adoptable horses find their right home.

3: Prevent needless suffering of horses that need euthanasia but their owners cannot afford the high cost of euthanasia and disposal.
All surrendered horses will be evaluated for quality of life and adoptabilty.  Adoptable horses will be placed into an adoption program at an approved rescue.

No horse is refused at our 1-Day Open Door Shelters!
