There has been a post going around Facebook about some horses in horrific condition near our shelter. There were some reports that the horses have been rescued, and some reports that they had not.
Sadly as of yesterday, the horses have not been rescued and are still suffering. We went out to investigate with WZTV FOX 17 News, Nashville. We are going to do everything we can to get these horses and other animals the help they so desperately need.
Tennessee, unfortunately, does not have strong laws that protect horses and other livestock. Dogs and cats have fairly strong protection, but with the big lick industry so prevalent, the laws have been written in a way to protect those who would abuse horses. We did a video of the horses when we were there with Fox 17. It is hard to watch because the horse is in so much pain. To watch the video, click here. Being there in person was more than heart-wrenching.
The news crew came to our office to edit their video and prepare to do a live newscast from our shelter.
Unfortunately, they were not able to broadcast live, but they did record a news segment which turned out wonderful. They did a very professional job covering this sensitive issue and bringing awareness to the plight of these horses.

We are going to do everything we can to get these horses the help they need. There are multiple agencies and organizations involved, and we are hopeful that they will have the help they need very soon.
