Horse Plus is Growing!

Horse Plus is growing, expanding, and saving so many lives!  Last year was our most successful year ever, and this year looks like it is going to be even more successful.  With the growth came the need for a larger office.  Our current office is a converted 12×16 tack shed, which is far too small for all the visitors, stall and volunteers.  Our bathroom facility is a stinky, hot, cold, porta-potty that is cleaned out once a week if we’re lucky.  Our board decided that an office was greatly needed, and plans and construction began earlier this year!  The office will be a 40×60 office with 2 bathrooms (public and private) a vet exam room, conference room, tack shop, and more.  Part of the office will have short-term housing for dogs and cats, and we will use the funds we raised for the dog and cat shelter awhile ago for that part of it.  We are not going to focus on dogs and cats, but from time to time we have them brought to us, and we need safe housing for them until they can be transferred to other organizations that specialize in them.

Tuesday morning before our team left for the auction the concrete truck arrived. He was going to pour the concrete in the new office but it wasn’t long before he got stuck. Here in Tennessee the ground is typically wet.

Since the concrete truck needed to unload it wasn’t long before the skidsteer got busy. It took a while for the concrete to be poured but the skidsteer made it possible.

Finally the last truck was finished pouring and the crew was busy finishing the concrete.

The concrete is an exciting step and we can’t wait until the office is ready for us to move into!

Wednesday was a very busy day getting everyone from the auction settled in. It takes a while to process 51 horses but we are so happy that we were able to do it with our great team. Thank you all so much for your support and for helping Tawnee meet her birthday wish. Watch a video of the horses arriving at her shelter and some of the intake process, click here. The horses are settling in well and getting healthier every day.

Jessie, one of our volunteers, is so happy that it is finally summer. She came out and helped clean water troughs. She plans on coming out this summer and helping as much as she can. If you are interested in volunteering our next volunteer day is June 5th from 10:00am-4:00 pm. If you are planning on coming please email to let us know.

We don’t only rescue horses sometimes we have to rescue little ones like this little bird and his siblings, not pictured. We are happy to say that we rescued both of them and they are safely back in their nest.

We also had some new arrivals this week from the Save Our Standardbreds From Slaughter in Pennsylvania. They were not able to find a local place for them so we were happy to have them come. They are all settling in well and happy to be done traveling.

Our trainer was able to come and work with the horses this week. We are so happy that Esmerelda is looking so much healthier now. She was brought to our rescue this past January looking so skinny and weak. She is now a sweetheart learning to trust again. She is only 3-years-old and is only halter trained at the moment.

Thank you so much for making all of this possible! If you would like to support all of the new arrivals please make a donation below.
